In the summer of 1934, the Members of the 17th Parliament, in its 5th Session, debated the Public Works Construction Bill.

 

The Prime Minister was R.B. Bennet (Conservative) and the leader of the Loyal Opposition was William Lyon McKenzie King (Liberal).

 

The project was debated and it was finally approved on June 30th, 1934.

 

The construction of some of Canada's architectural landmarks was about to begin.
