The house resumed at eight o’clock.

 

Right Hon. R.B. Bennett (Prime Minister) moved that the house go into committee to consider the following proposed resolution:

 

“Resolved, that is expedient to bring in a measure to authorize the expenditure of certain sums of money for the construction of and repairs to public works and for dredging and improving harbours and rivers throughout Canada”.

 

Mr. Bennet:

 

“(The resolution) contemplates the expenditure of something less than $40.000.000 for the purpose of public works undertakings from the Atlantic to the Pacific (…) By the expenditure of the moneys in question it is proposed to give employment to as large number of persons in as many walks of human activity as may possible”
